RV Life with the Fultz's

John 3:16

jeffdeb

We wanted to try and keep track of the next 2 years of  RV Travel. Nothing fancy,  just a quick recap.  Debbie and Myself are trying out retirement and driving around the country to see what states/cities we might want to move.  I was an Engineer in high tech, and Debbie was an executive admin also in high tech.  We are now leaving El Dorado Hills California to go see our beautiful country.   We will try to add some notes to help people from our travels. Places to stay, Churches we tried, restaurants and special people we have met along our journey.  So far it seems Disneyland in not the happiest place on earth. It is RV resorts. ( and there are no lines)   :-)

For Church while traveling, we love to watch District Church's live broadcast.   http://district.church/  .  There is a Facebook live feed link as well as previous messages here....  http://district.church/media/  .    Live feed is  10:30 AM Sunday  service ( PST)  .

Please remember that you are loved, you are special, you are brilliant, and you are a miracle.

Wishing you Love and Light.

 Our Coach

A 2018 Tiffin Phaeton 40QBH . It has a bath and a half, full size fridge, washer dryer, dishwasher, king size bed, heated floors. We purchased the unit  in March in Portland Oregon.  It is a nice way to camp  :-)

Basic Route for 2018 June-Oct.

Will end up in Las Vegas, then loop back to El Dorado Hills for November. Of course we will detour off this route. That is part of RV life :-)

route

2019 Plan. Go to Key West Fl.  Then around the south.

States Visited

Note about star ratings below:  When I give start ratings to rate RV Parks we stayed at, I will use a total of 10 stars ( best)  as some KOAs might be nice,  but obviously not the Ritz Carlton.   Ritz is a 10,  but a cheap motel would be a 1-3, so a 7 for a KOA might be a great KOA, just not a resort.  Great  IMHO is not crowded, nice weather, nice view, nice pool or ocean, clean, nicer rigs, onsite workout room, onsite restaurant is a plus, etc.

Placerville Koa in Shingle Springs - May 2018

Placerville Koa in Shingle Springs.   6 of 10 stars.  ( good but not great)   Pretty location for spring stay, but gravel lots &  tight spaces are a deduct, also hot in summer. Wifi is hit and miss.  It does have trees an onsite store and pool, fishing for kids and goats,   all of which are very cool, except the goats are just awesome :-) .  I would say the tight area and few large RV lots make this go from a 7 to 6, but would stay here again as for the area, it is a good choice. 2 week max, unless you get special approval, but still seems to have a lot of long term residents in spite of the rule.

https://koa.com/campgrounds/placerville/

Dining: if you stay here,  I would go to El Dorado Hills Town Center for dining.  Sienna, Aji, Milestone and the new Steakhouse are all good choices.  :-)

Placervillegoats

Restaurants:  EDH Town Center

Church: District Church El Dorado Hills

Side trip for our anniversary May 13th  with no RV as we took a 3 day cruise  from Seattle to Vancouver Island as we dropped of the RV for some repairs.  we stayed in Seattle at the "Inn at the Market" .  In Canada,   Buchart Gardens are Amazing.

Vancouver Island cruise

Auburn RV Park  June 2018

For the month of June. Auburn RV park.  6 of 10 stars.   Nice place, clean park, blacktop,  mostly full timers.  Does have a pool.  close to stores, Horrible wifi. Auburn is fun with some great restaurants and we went also wine tasting. ( see Naggiar Vineyards in Grass Valley)   The park is ok, but with all the full timers, seems more like a place to live than a place to camp.  http://www.auburnrvpark.com/ .  I would return here is I needed to stay around Auburn.

Church: District Church El Dorado Hills

Restaurants:  We have good meals at Dingus McGee's, , Tre Piazzi Tratoria, The Club Car, The Ridge golf course for lunch outside on the patio is nice as well.  http://naggiarvineyards.com/  for wine tasting with lunch or one of their evening concerts is a must do.

 Pensacola Florida

( no RV)  June 21st to Pensacola Florida for Sydney Newman's wedding. Bug Fun.  :-)

We stayed a Portofino Island Resort. ( condo with Mark and Denise).  Really nice place with amazing beaches, warm ocean and multiple swimming pools with waiters to serve you a the pool. Aso there is pretty good dining onsite at the resort.

Dining..  I would go to Red Fish Blue Fish for sure again just to get the grilled fish and their house sauce which seemed like a sun dried tomato cream sauce. Lot of great places to get fresh fish. Also had good food at Hemingway's, and The Wine Bar. Peg Leg Pete's was a fun place as well.

3rd stop

Over nighted at Yreka Waiiaka RV Park. No pictures but nice park for a night stay with pull through sites and good wifi.  A casino is close by with pretty good food but diner like ambiance. Pretty pricey for a casino.

From here, I think we really start RV'ing as we leave home   :-)

Pacific Motor Coach  Resort in Newport Oregon

Jun 28th 2018:  for the month of July till early August  we are hanging out at Pacific Motor Coach  Resort in Newport Oregon.  It is really a resort vs. a KOA and we were right on the ocean/beach.  We had to move back 3 rows because we only that that lot for a week, but love it here.   9 stars of 10. ( only deduct is no onsite restaurant  :-)  ) .   Can be a bit windy, but this is the place to escape the summer heat with a mile long quiet beach to walk every day.    Debbie is taking our daughter Taylor to Australia to attend Hillsong College, while I hang out in beautiful Oregon.  This place is a must stay. Treat yourself to an ocean view for a few days of $120 a night of so.  Worth every penny.  We go back to Ocean Front August 1st-6th

Dining:  Definitely drive to Depoe Bay and get a window table at Tidal Raves restaurant and watch the whales.  You will thank me.  :-) .  Tap House in Nye beach is fun as well as  Sorella Italian also in Nye beach are a good place to visit.  Nana's Irish Pub is fun, just not a big fan of Irish food.  Izzy's pizza is good for cheap food with great view.

Churches: South Beach Christian and Newport Christian.

Pacific Shores is highly recommended.  we love love love the Oregon coast to escape the heat.   :-)

Side trip late July to see Tom ( brother) race in the Trans Am circuit at  Portland International Raceway.  Lots of fun!!!

race1

Bend Oregon August 6th -10th.

The fires on the west coast have smoke pretty much everywhere, and it was abnormally hot at high 90's, but Bend is a wonderful town.  Crown Villa Resort is spacious and green with beautiful trees, but unfortunately our lot ( 411) was looking over the road, so would only give this place a 7. Also bad wifi and no pool, but pretty sites if you get the right spot is my short recap.
The first thing to do in Bend is to take the Segway tour at Bend Tour Company for $65, so you know your way around. You will see the old mill district, the river so you know some of your rafting options, estate homes , and  get the history of bend. The you also go downtown. Bend is pretty much a must visit place. :-)   The downtown is multiple blocks of pubs, shopping and restaurants so you can spend a few days checking this out. We took highway 20 from Newport, which has lots of curves so would consider alternate root.

Church: not here long enough

Restaurants:  For Downtown, we hit Pine Tavern which is a must along with the brewery next door as well as Deschutes.  Wild Rose Thai is also a  must and have the Khoa Soi Curry, and Sukiyaki ( level 4 hot). In  Old Mill District Greg's grill.

StoneRidge RV in Blanchard Idaho.  August 11th-16th.

We stopped off in Kennewick Washington on the way to StoneRidge.  StoneRidge is a must do 10 star RV park if you are a golfer.  You don't have to drive anywhere as there is a restaurant onsite and the golf course has 19 holes. ( no groceries onsite though) . Great golf course and beautiful place..They have a stay and play package.  We are having a very difficult time trying to find anything close to this in many other states.  I recommend asking for a lake view lot if you can get one.  :-) . We drove 45 minutes to Coeur D'Alene to eat at Beverly's on the lake and check out the town. ( picture from Beverly's with our Chardonnay below) . Very fun trip. Need 10 days here at least.    :-)

Livingston Montana .  August 17th-20th.

We stopped the  Missoula KOA,  on the way to Livingston. ( you can walk to restaurants from this KOA, so very convenient.  Livingston and Bozeman are very fun. We stayed at Osens RV in Livingston. No sewer hookups as they were booked.  Lots of people visiting Yellowstone park come through here so very busy. Would stay here again if I can get hookups, but just a normal KOA type park with gravel lots and  nice people.
I love Montana. I love the summer climate, the wildlife, the beautiful rivers, great food, and the Golf courses were great as well due to summer rains. We met our cousin Matt and played golf then went to the car show he entered in Bozeman. Bozeman has a great downtown area and  they shut down main street for about 6 blocks and have a giant community gathering.   Lots of great places to eat  drink and shop here.  We need to spend a week just in Bozeman.  Matt owns Wilcoxson's Ice Cream, so our course we had to go by the plant to sample a few flavors. It was great to see Matt and Aunt Joyce.

Restaurants: You have to go to the Rib and Chop House in Livingston for one of the best Rib Eye Steaks ever.

Buffalo Wyoming .  August 20th-21st.

Hung out in Buffalo WY for a day to just relax before we hit the road to Colorado. Wyoming is beautiful country with lots of deer and we were lucky enough to see herds of antelope as well. we even had a pet rabbit at our site. :-)

Deer Valley RV park is nice. you can see trees are pretty close to the rig.  great wifi. gravel lots.  Middle tier RV park.

Lakeside KOA Fort Collins  August 22-Sept 10

We dropped off the rig and went to Vail to see Bev and Phil.  Vail is Amazing. Now back in Fort Collins

Vail in the summer is beyond great with amazing trails, shops and eating. Also the most beautiful downtown on the planet.  :-)  You have to go the farmers market, and you also have to go up the tram, then walk 1 mile to Lion's head, where you can take the tram back down.  A free bus ride takes you back to downtown Vail.   Probably our top pick for where to move to so far. ( if we can afford it)  :-) . The KOA, is amazing too, with a huge lake, large playground, boats, mini golf, pool, etc.   for KOA, this is a 10 and a small kids dream. The only problem is horrible wifi. Downtown Fort Collins ( Disneyland was modeled after the downtown) is a playground for adults with lots of amazing bars, shops and restaurants. You will love it here.   :-)   . Also our bunny friends  keep following us from site to site which is very fun.

Sept  5th  After Vail

we went to visit Brad in Boulder. Loved Boulder for the hiking with the puppies (Major Major and Pivot), as well as the downtown.  Thank Brad  :-)

- Then we stayed in Denver at the Glass House ( Thanks Bev & Phil)  :-).  Great time in Denver

Sept 11th

  -  Side Trip to Los Angeles to visit Steve and Renee and the girls and see the Eagles at the Forum. Shaya entered a charity triathlon in Malibu ( Zuma beach ) and won first place!!! .  Cambria is class president at Oaks Christian High as a junior and working very hard at school. So proud of these girls.  We also got to see Sammy Newman as she also goes to Pepperdine  College with Shaya.  Lot of great dinners and got to spend time swapping stories with Ray Parker Jr.  He is so funny.  :-)    Also Lots of Golf and finished at Ojai while the girls went to a spa.  Great trip.

Sept 21

Grannies one the go... aka  Dana and Sharon  ( with Haley the woder Doggy) caught up with us, so we took a trip to Rocky Mountains National Park. Of course Hayley was our navigator.   :-)  More Bunnies as we returned to Fort Collins.

Wolf Creek Run Class A only Motorcoach Resort Sept 25-29

We had a great time with the friendly people in Pagosa Springs  and the weekly  party at the lodge. You are right on the river in a very nice resort.  There is a taxi, but no Uber and it is about 1 mile walk on the freeway to town, but a very nice resort with some good restaurants. The drive here from Denver area was beautiful as you cross the mountains.

Spanish Trail RV Park Moab Utah -    Sept 29-Oct 1

This Rv park is not a resort. Just a place to park that is close to Moab. Jailhouse Cafe  is a good place for breakfast.  :-) . The reason to stay here is Arches Nation Park.
We hiked to the Delicate Arch. Just FYI if you are nervous about heights the last few hundred yards is a 4 foot wide trail with a rock wall on 1 side and long drop on the other.  :-)

Willow Wind RV Park Hurricane Utah  Oct 1st to  Oct 13th

Debbie flew to El Dorado Hills to see Allie speak at a Christian conference and have a mother daughter trip to Aptos with Rita and Michelle.  Steve came out to visit in the meantime so we could play some golf and see Bryce Canyon. Awesome golf course here. Sky Mountain and Sand Hollow are 2 course you should definitely play.
Bryce is beautiful and a must. Not much in the way of good restaurants so go to Saint George for good food.  :-)

Zion River Resort in Virgin Utah Oct 13-21st 2018

We move the rig closer to Zion and Springdale.  Springdale is a nice town. Nice RV park but wifi is not so great  :-) . We had and amazing day in Zion National Park!!!!!
